Ghent

"Ghent should rank as the most surprising city in Flanders, combining beauty and culture with creativity, cutting edge design and a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene."
-- John Brunton (The Observer)

Ghent is a compact, authentic city where the past and present co-exist in perfect balance. Walking through the city is like travelling through time: you turn the corner and just like that, you go from the fourteenth century to the twenty-first.

Every year in July, a long-established, ten-day cultural event takes over the historic city center of medieval Ghent in Belgium. There is free music on all the central squares and hundreds of vibrant activities, including three international festivals. The Ghent Festivities treat visitors to 10 days of continuous free feasts on several squares in the historic centre of the city. Each year about 1.5 million visitors attend one of the greatest cultural and popular festivals in Europe.
